Tracie Stein - the reinvention of your space
Tracie Stein is a talented interior stylist and decorator in Atlanta, GA. She is the owner of V2-Interiors. Below is her story.
equilibreyaum: Tell me about your background, when did you first become fascinated with interior design?
Tracie: For as long as I can remember, I have always had a healthy appetite for art and design. One of my favorite things as a kid was to go shopping with my mom and help pick out furniture and accessories for our house. Professionally, I have been a hairdresser for decades, but I have always kept my passion for interiors on the side. As time went on I was asked by family and friends to help them decorate their homes. It really excited and inspired me to extend my creative work into that arena, so I decided to devote myself to styling interiors professionally. There is such a common thread between interiors and hair--how you look and how your home is designed says a lot about your personality and lifestyle. And they both have a powerful effect on how you feel.
e: How would you describe your personal style?
T: My aesthetic is modern and clean. It’s a style that focuses on functionality and incorporates nature, texture, layering, fabrics and global artifacts into the mix. It is curated with the intention of bringing calm and beauty to any interior.
e: Who inspires your design aesthetic?
T: Design is everywhere. I am constantly inspired by not only people, but all disciplines of art, nature, texture, and cultures. My personal style reflects all those things; however, I do have some favorite interior designers and blogs that are my go to. Leanne Ford, Axel Vervoordt, Ilse Crawford, Anishka Clarke/Niya Bascom, Pamela Makin, and Hilton Carter, to name a few. SFgirlbybay and MyScandinavianHome are two blogs I follow religiously.
e: Tell me about V2-Interiors. Why the name?
T: V2-Interiors mean a reinvention of your space. I’m working to redefine what you already have, enhancing it with the right flow, function, balance, and soul. The idea is to create the next, best version of your home.
e: In your opinion, which stores have the widest variety of style? Where do you find yourself shopping for clients most often?
T: I’m pretty eclectic in my shopping options. I like West Elm, Ikea, Crate & Barrel, Serena & Lily, World Market, HomeGoods. You can find awesome items at consignment stores, antique shops, and flea markets. As far as where I shop or recommend for my clients, depends on the environment we are trying to create, and their budget. It is important to me to mix new pieces with vintage, because they really complement each other and give the space more character and uniqueness.
e: Which spaces have proven to be most tricky for you in terms of design ideas? Which spaces prove to be the most fun?
T: The trickiest spaces are those that have too much stuff in them, which I know is a problem for all of us. Decluttering can be pretty emotional, but the result is so freeing to the flow of your space and your mind. The most fun spaces are when I really click with my client creatively and am given a lot of freedom to design.
e: Tell us about a time when you had no idea how to transform a space. How did you end up finishing the project?
T: Honestly, I constantly have the opposite problem. I usually walk into a space and have too many ideas of how to transform it. LOL
e: Do you have any advice for someone who is interested in having their own interior design company? Any tips on how to get started?
T: The tip is to start out doing the work even if it is for free. Ask your friends and family to let you style their places and take photos for a website, blog, or IG page that you set up. Just jump in, get your feet wet and have fun!
e: Explain how your services work. When should someone reach out to you for a refresh?
T: I have several levels to my services. The best way to get started is to hire me for a two hour consultation. I’ll come to your home to get to know you and your environment. We’ll talk about your vision, goals, functionality, timeline, budget, and how you want to feel in your space. From there--you can take my recommendations and implement them yourself, hire me for concierge shopping and styling, or complete a project from start to finish. Hiring an interior stylist can inspire and motivate you beyond your expectations, bringing new ideas to the table that you may not have thought of. Reach out to me when you are in need of a new version of you, whether you are feeling stuck or just ready for a new vibe.
e: How can people find your services?
T: Go to my website! V2-Interiors.com. My contact info is there and pictures of my previous projects for you to browse through.
e: Thank you for sharing your story Tracie! Anything else you’d like to share?
T: I want to thank you for the opportunity to bring my vision, creativity, and passion to your audience. Breya, you are the best!
